Scottish Working Class

Photobucket
Photobucket
Just purchased a book of Paul Stands portraits he took of the people of the rugged island of South Uist, off the west coast of Scotland.
Tir a'Mhurain: The Outer Hebrides of Scotland, taken in 1954, is the perfect documentation of a more simpler time and the style of what Scottish gentlemen were wearing. Since the past couple of days have been gray and clouds (my favorite time of the year) I always thought the vintage industrial working class look goes well with the atmosphere.

Eat in Style!!!! Dine in at McDonalds!!!!

Photobucket
After all, they do have free wi-fi in most locations now, but how predominate are we going to see more sleek, stylish, sophiticated interior designs for one of the most iconic (and at times infamous) American fast food chains? There's already one in NYC, two in LA and even one in Savannah GA. I'm thinking the only thing they're missing is a runway where they display their past wokers uniform and quite possible reveal future work garments, maybe something that will accentuate the "golden arches" term and make it into a furturistic hat! Or maybe reinterpret the McDonalds characters like Ronald and the Cheese Burgler into more fashionable comic book characters complete with three-piece suits. Who says kids can only trust a stranger weaing a suit?

A Place In The Sun

Photobucket
From what my good friend Emily said "Today is a Leather Day." So I decided to pay homage to Monty himself from the classic 1951 film "A Place In The Sun." If you haven't seen him in this film, you must! Here's a clip of the first 10 minutes. Pay attention to the first 3 minutes of the clip and you will see why James Dean was totally obsessed with Clift (maybe even ripped off).

The Last Days of Shorts

Photobucket
Last Monday was officially the first day of Fall. However, here in the south Fall doesn't seem to start till probably mid to late October. Yes the leaves are starting to turn yellow and brown and they're already starting to fall on the ground. But that doesn't mean the heat and humidity will stop anytime soon. This means there is a litle bit more time to wear those shorts you seem to can't get enough of. The key secret to making this work is to slightly incorporate elements of Fall (i.e. color and clothes). Mix in dress shirts, blazers, ties, bow ties, dress shoes or Converses. Have fun while the heat is still here and always be creative. Here are a couple of variations on the use of shorts during the first days of Fall.

The Official Kickoff of "The Young Lions" blog!

Welcome to the inaugural kickoff of "Young Lions!" This blog is a creative outlet for me to express my love of men's fashion and photography in a new form that is very much new to me. While my background was in print photography, I've always had a love of fashion at a very young age growing up reading such publications as Rolling Stone, Vogue, Vanity Fair and Spin. The idea for this site is to show you bold, creative and thought provoking style ideas for men: in other words, young styles for the youth at heart.

For those of you who are interested knowing where I got the title for the blog, the name came from the 1958 film based on the WWII novel by Irwin Shaw of the same name. The film stared Montgomery Clift, who is one of my fashion inspirations. Through the future progression of this blog, you will see me reference Clift in both my choice of clothing style or photography composition. For now enjoy the trailer to this underrated classic!
